All is well aboard the Aurora Australis as we make the most of good conditions and moderate seas on our return to Hobart.
We will anchor in the Derwent early tomorrow morning to complete the last of the compulsory lifeboat drills with the port lifeboat; something not possible when tied alongside.
Our expected arrival time at the wharf is 2pm tomorrow afternoon.
Expeditioners continue the last of their biosecurity cleaning, cabin preparations and project debriefs before our arrival back into port.
From here, the Aurora Australis will commence her final port call for the 2017/18 season, a busy period of unpacking and disassembly of cargo, science equipment and project gear before the ship goes off hire until next season.
Last night we enjoyed our voyage's 'special occasion', with the ship's catering team putting together a pub style dinner, enjoyed with a few drinks in the ships mess. The smooth sea conditions and great personnel aboard made the event an enjoyable evening of small talk, card games, computer games and a demonstration from the Macca Song and Dance Troupe.
Thanks again to the hard working and talented people that have made this voyage and Macca's resupply; in particular the ships crew, watercraft operators and station personnel, and indeed the 2017/18 season, such a great success.
Lastly thanks to Aron our Voyage Management Trainee for writing most of the SITREP's!
See you all again next season for another crack!
Cheers
Andy, Justin and Aron
