Yesterday we expected to get only a few hours operations in the morning before the wind and swell swung to the east making it difficult and unsafe to stay in Buckles Bay. As it turned out we manage to make it to early afternoon before having to plug the pin and head for open water.
It was a great day for cargo leaving only 11 LARC loads left to go, before concentrating on Return To Australia cargo (RTA).
Now that the winds are from the north we are unable to anchor and the the Aurora Australis continues to 'stooge' up and down the east coast of Macquarie Island. The positive side to this is a long awaited sleep-in enjoyed this morning. Conditions are expected to remain bumpy for the next 24hrs or so, allowing everybody to get reacquainted with the Aurora's hand rails and sea sick pills.
Otherwise, aboard the ship many expeditioners have replaced books with card games, while our younger (and young at heart) expeditioners enjoy Super Mario Brothers on the ships Wii console. At station, work continues as the last of the Dangerous Goods paperwork is finalised and RTA cargo is prepared for loading on our return.
Cheers
Andy, Justin and Aron
