Comments

Cargo continued briefly into the afternoon yesterday before being called off due to wave heights at landing beach. These conditions, whilst ideal for surfing, are not suitable for LARC operations so after a few hours the Aurora Australis headed back offshore for the night.

Unfortunately weather conditions have not improved overnight and at this stage we look unlikely to complete any cargo operations today. Despite this, station personnel continue to prepare RTA cargo, position cage pallets and manifest samples.

Aboard the Aurora Australis the few expeditioners still based on the ship amuse themselves with books, movies and eating, whilst the Voyage Management team calculate estimated outstanding LARC loads and required pax transfers.

The ships crew and all expeditioners also participated in a training muster drill, with everyone meeting at their muster stations on the ships heli deck. Conditions on deck could best be described as fresh.

In other news, Justin, our Deputy Voyage Leader who is responsible for the cargo component of the resupply, has been exercising his forecasting skills through the development of daily cargo 'forecasts'. In one of his better examples, last Tuesday's forecast has been attached below;

Tuesday Cargo Forecast:
"Early strong front moving through, bringing WOV and Cabin baggage early on. Mid-morning chance of Priority/Criitical cage pallets, followed by a high of Gas cage pallets, slowing to a moderate amount of Polar Medicine Unit equipment and possible a shower or two of wooden crates. In the afternoon, a strong chance of MT (eMpTy) cage pallets, followed by UPE cage pallets and an evening admin cargo run back to the ship".

Our on board BoM meteorologist is less convinced.

Cheers

Andy, Justin and Aron
