We arrived at Macquarie Island at 1330 local time yesterday and dropped anchor in Buckles Bay.
Shorty after we were greeted by current Macquarie Island Station Leader, along with representatives from Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service.
Following a station induction presentation and further environmental briefings, priority expeditioners began IRB transfers to the Island.
This included two expeditioners who headed directly into the field. They are studying the invasive weed Stellaria media, and the effects this is having on local ecosystems.
Whilst this was occurring both LARC's were offloaded and began priority cargo operations. This included a number of priority station and project supplies. We also welcomed aboard two new expeditioners who have been based on the island over the summer who have agreed to be ship based for the duration of the resupply to make precious beds available ashore.
This morning commenced with further expeditioner transfers from the Aurora Australis to Macquarie Island. Between passenger transfers, cargo continues to be loaded onto the LARC's as we make good progress on our resupply efforts.
Cheers
