Comments

The crew and expeditioners aboard the Aurora Australis continue the voyage towards Mawson Station.

Most expeditioners awoke feeling much better today after the first good night's rest and relatively mild conditions experienced throughout the evening. We've been accompanied by the odd albatross but otherwise wildlife has been sparse – we're hoping to encounter many more marine and avian friends as we approach the ice edge in a few days' time!

Our underway science activities continue, with meteorological balloon launches, water and air sampling and plankton recording activities being conducted at regular intervals. Preparations are now also underway to identify volunteers from among the expeditioners to undertake hourly sea ice observations – again expected to commence in the next few days.

The voyage management team are also reviewing standard operating procedures and developing a schedule of pre-arrival briefings for the expeditioners and crew.

Cheers

Mark & Fred
