Today our 'natural born krillers', ably supported by the ship's crew completed several more krill trawls before midday, bringing to a close a very productive 3 days of marine science. Our congratulations to all those involved in both the krill trawling and whale mooring retrieval and deployment, with thanks in particular to the volunteers on board who supported the work.

At lunch time the expeditioners and ship's crew gathered for Christmas lunch in the ship's mess, where a sumptuous Christmas feast had been laid on by the galley crew – a testament to their resourcefulness and skill. Speeches were made by the Ship's Master, Chief Mate and Voyage Leader before the Christmas cake was cut and we all sat down together to enjoy ourselves. The ship's 'Kris Kringle' has been postponed awaiting the return of our water craft operators from station and after lunch many retired to the library to play board games and digest. A very happy Christmas it has been, with thoughts of all of us naturally turning to those at home awaiting our return, as well as those on station, also awaiting our return.

With the strong winds at Casey abating, tomorrow's forecast looks to be accommodating our planned return to station. Planning has continued today on ship and station, and we hope to commence passenger transfers and watercraft operations at Casey tomorrow morning in support of facilitating refuel and cargo operations in the coming days.

With best wishes for your Christmas night and kind regards as always,

James and Dave
