Comments

Slinking through the low cloud and fog on very calm seas, the AA is again on the hunt for krill. Sailing in a zig-zag search pattern whilst expeditioners monitor the ship's echo-sounder for dense schools of krill, the crew standby to deploy the trawl net before transporting the 'catch of the day' to the krill tanks in the labs onboard.

Early in the afternoon the crew undertook a man overboard drill and tour of the rescue apparatus available on the ship accompanied by the ship's doctor who provided instruction on first aid devices and procedures.

Voyage management have been busy in discussions with supervisors at Casey as to the return of the ship and the commencement of resupply operations that as always, remain contingent on the weather and ice conditions – the latter of which those on station are actively working to improve.

Downstairs in the library the collection of presents beneath the branches of the Christmas tree appears to be growing, as is the array of Christmas decorations.. tinsel wrapped around columns, bookshelves and fittings, whilst wreaths are slung on the door handles of labs. A Christmas tree monitor (aka santa's helper) has been appointed and EPRs (expeditioner performance reviews) have been forwarded to Santa's workshop for review. Scattered flurries of snow showers suggest a white Christmas is a distinct prospect.

In the meantime, onward ever onward into the cloud and fog.

Kind regards,

James and Dave
