After a careful assessment this morning of the condition of the fast ice, and the capability of our watercraft to increase access to the Casey wharf for resupply operations, we have decided to let nature take its course as we return to the open ocean. There, we will revisit our old friend the whale mooring and attempt a series of krill trawls as part of our marine science work, well clear of the strong winds forecast for the Casey region in the coming days.
As the crew make preparations for our departure we are conducting a series of passenger transfers. Our superb team of watercraft operators will temporarily join the Casey team to support water craft operations there. Bringing gifts of frozen meat and veggies to station we expect they'll be welcomed with open arms. Now onboard, we welcome additional team members to bolster our refuelling crew.
Looking out to sea, our journey this afternoon will take us across calm waters, beneath a cloudless sky past icebergs, and if we're lucky perhaps.. a whale or two.
Kind regards,
James and Dave
