It would be a lie to say "I awoke to ice covering my porthole window" because I don't think I slept at all last night. It wasn't the roughest I've ever experienced, it was the seemingly unpredictable, inconsistent nature of the ship's movement that made it one of the least restful evenings I have ever had on the good old Aurora. And I'm not alone: plenty of bleary-eyed folk zombie-ing about today, threatening to have a siesta after lunch. But yes, there was ice covering my window this morning, courtesy of the cold air temperatures and the spray being thrown over the ship as we punched through yet another short sharp swell. We anticipate being in the pack ice tomorrow, but it is slightly surprising that we haven't sighted our "first" 'berg yet (there was one on radar 6 NM NW of our track yesterday, but shrouded in fog – hence no winner yet for the iceberg sweep).
Given good conditions through the pack, our ETA for the Davis fast-ice edge is currently Tuesday afternoon.
