Comments

The ship came to life at 0530 this morning, with departure checks and engine starts. The anchor was heaved and secured at 0614, and we were finally heading out to sea. We're currently heading west, waiting for a front to cross us with an accompanying wind direction change, and we will then head more directly towards Davis, to the SW. Seas aren't too bad at present. The wave rider at Cape Sorell recorded 15m maximum wave height last night, justifying our decision to remain in the lee of Bruny Island.
The majority of people seem to be travelling pretty well so far, and many were out on deck this afternoon as our track took us between Mewstone and Maatsuyker Island, giving us a fantastic view of the lighthouse with Tasmania's rugged southwest landscape in the background. The Continuous Plankton Recorder was deployed at 1315.
Regards, Doug & Andrew
