Departed Hobart at 7am for this seasons Trials Voyage. Having a Trials Voyage is very important to enable AAD engineers/technicians the opportunity to give the scientific equipment (and its supporting equipment) a good test run prior to the ship heading South. Today a successful calibration of the ships acoustics was conducted off White Rock in the Derwent River. A further coldwater calibration is planned to be completed on Voyage 2 assist in acoustic data analysis. Later this evening the rectangular midwater trawl (RMT) will be tested to ensure that the fibre optic cable and electronics are working correctly for Voyage two. Tomorrow will be a day of testing both CTD winches and further RMT trawls.
Thanks to Shipping and Watercraft Support for their support today.
REGARDS: Phil & Rick.
