No operations today. Not that we haven't been tyring though. The wind had dropped down this morning, but has been more southerly than SW as we had hoped, so once again the slop on the East coast is preventing operations there. We nosed in to Hassleborough Bay twice this morning, but the wind was increasing and could not find a settled position where the ship roll was acceptable. Sooo.. Back to patrolling the coast in case it eases off late.

The folk ashore have been on hurry up and wait standby, but are getting on with other work and some Larc maintenance. On board our chef has spoiled us with a mighty three course lunch, causing some to take a post prandial nap. It is one week since we left Hobart, so probably time for the weekly voyage management fingernail check to keep everyone on their toes...

No Orcas so far today, but we did enjoy a flight of 8 or so Blue Eyed Cormorants – endemic to Macquarie Island - flying upwind at the same speed as the ship and hovering abreast the bridge and foremast. They are diving birds and not the world's best flyers, urban legend on station claims in high winds they give up flying and walk across the Isthmus on the way home....

Yesterday afternoon proceeded very well and we continued cargo operations between 1230 and 2100 with 3 Larcs. As a result we moved out the majority of inbound and started receiving some of the many RTA cage pallets. So we now have 2 full days of operations under the belt, and hope for a couple of good days coming up.

Cheers Don and Helen
