No Operations today. The combination of a low easterly swell from a low pressure system to our North, and a slowly increasing Southerly wind and sea meant there was too much roll for the ship to do cargo work from Buckles Bay. We nosed around to the West into Hassleborough Bay for a look, but too much swell there also. After maintaining hope for the morning, we have given up for today and the expected Southerly is building. Southerlies at Macca mean we lose the lee of the Island, so we are bouncing around enjoying a quiet day after a late finish yesterday.

Friday operations went extremely well. With perfect conditions we extended hours until civil twilight at 2100. This allowed us to disembark all summer and round trip personnel, most priority and critical cargo, and some new toys for station – A JCB 4wd fork/digger thingy, a small 4wd "Polaris" and a Spider Lift work at heights platform for the builders. These were the trickiest loads requiring calm conditions and careful crane and tag line work - so good to get ashore. Huge black Orca fins appeared several times amongst the kelp and out to sea.

The shipside expedition contingent has dwindled to four - Doctor Clive, Deputy Voyage Leader Helen, Stevedore Kerry, and myself.– which made for a quick head count at today's emergency muster drill.

Cheers Don and Helen
