It was a great achievement to have collected two ¼ heights of rubbish accumulated from various sources around a few islands in Kista Strait. It was taken back to Mawson to organise for return to Australia next resupply. As I have previous said there was no room at the inn to take the rubbish with us. For those who are unaware a ¼ height is a container a ¼ the size of a 20 foot shipping container.
We had things nicely organised for Mawson expeditioners to come to the ship late afternoon and after dinner. The best laid plans always get changed. When doing the late afternoon transfers to the ship the wind speed was gradually trending up towards the working parameters of the IRBs (inflatable rubber boats) so we brought forward the transfer of the last Mawson expeditioners and we had everyone on board by 1800. The new Station Leader did a great job of rounding up the last group and it was appreciated that the group was so responsive.
All the briefings required when you get on the ship were completed and at 9pm we set sail for Davis. The winter Mawson expeditioners came out to West Arm to wave us goodbye which was much appreciated as it was pretty cold.
We wish the Station Leader and her team a safe and happy winter and look forward to seeing them back in Australia next year.
Cheers
