Comments

There is the constant sight of icebergs now and bits of ice in the water around us as we are sailing towards the sunset. It is an amazing sight to be sailing in open water and seeing different shaped and sized 'chunks' of ice. It is quite surreal.

The pod of whales that we saw yesterday have been identified as long fin pilot whales. We are continuing to work on plans for our arrival at Mawson.

Today's training was in the use of maps and a compass. Tomorrow we are scheduled to undertake an environment briefing and the cleaning and vacuuming of our gear. Attendance at the briefing and the cleaning is a prerequisite of going ashore at any of Australia's Antarctic and sub Antarctic stations.

Cheers
Leanne, Simon and Amy
