Aurora Australis watch was activated several nights ago. We are sailing on the RSV Aurora Australis but the Aurora Australis I am speaking of is the coloured lights that appear in the night sky under the right conditions. Those who were able to be roused from their slumber witnessed such an event last night – some for the first time. Thank you to the crew for notifying those who wished to see the lights.

Nightly presentations began two nights ago. The first being of Old Casey Station and the local area in 1986. This was the time a new station was being constructed at Casey with the old station still being occupied. For those who have only seen Australia's newer stations it was a good insight to how different life was in an older station with its unheated tunnel that ran the length of the station.

Last night we were able to visit Africa courtesy of photos taken over two visits. We were even treated to a DVD of African photos put to music with an African theme – the soundtrack was excellent. My personal favourite was "Kimba the White Lion' which took me back to my childhood. Thanks Callum.

We put our clocks back one more hour last night to UTC +9. Getting an extra hour sleep is great but it will not be as pleasant when we put our clocks forward and lose an hour each time on our transit home.

Cheers
Leanne, Simon and Amy
