King Neptune visited yesterday to initiate newcomers to the southern
ocean. Expeditioners and crew who had crossed 60 degrees south for the
first time were anointed by the king; this involved Neptune and his
entourage, dyed blue and suitably dressed, and a ceremony involving a
large salmon and bucket of something fishy and unpleasant smelling
(depending on your taste!). Everyone received a certificate. Attendance
was 'challenge by choice' of course!

We then celebrated the last CTD and completion of the bulk of the
science with a Special Occasion where volunteers conscripted to cook
pizzas and give the tireless galley staff a night off.

This morning there has been lots of busy preparing, writing and printing
of labels, declarations and permits so that all of the science samples
are ready for when customs and quarantine visit once we dock at Hobart.

Cheers

Andy and Mike
