We arrived in the Ninnis Polynya in the early hours of the morning and
made our way to the far western corner.
This part of Antarctica is rarely visited, with just one record of a
visit by ship that we are aware of, the US Palmer visiting and taking a
sediment sample in 1979.
We are working our way east stopping to do CTD's every few miles, often
within a mile of the coast, where glacial ice falls to the water broken
by steep dolomite cliffs. The sea has been mirror calm for much of the
day. All very picturesque.
We plan to leave here tomorrow and begin our journey home, stopping for
one last ice station and transect of CTD's on the way.
Cheers
