Comments

Our first iceberg was sighted in the early hours of this morning!

A few hours later krill were spotted on the echo sounders and the Rectangular Mid-water Trawl (RMT) was deployed for the first time. This net can be lowered accurately to a chosen depth and then opened and after a predetermined time, closed again. This allows highly target trawls through the echo sounder sightings. We are happy to now have quite a few kilos of live young and immature krill in our holding tanks.

Briefings today included bunker door operations (the access and egress from the ship to an inflatable rubber boat (IRB) is through the bunker door and down the pilot ladder), refuelling and environment.

We hope to arrive a the acoustic whale mooring tomorrow, which we then intend to retrieve and replace with a new one.

Cheers

Andy and Mike
