Today we find ourselves just south of parallel 50, making good time in very pleasant conditions. The sea is calm, the sky is cloudy with a hint of sun and all is well.
But what lies beneath? We have spent Sunday morning crossing an immense canyon in the ocean floor; passing over the shoulder of a mountain rising to 2200 metres below sea level then plunging down to a depth of 4300 metres before climbing back up the other side. It's a known feature and we'll be recrossing this canyon several times over the next 100 miles. You just have to sit back, watch the echo-sounder and use your imagination. It looks like nice walking country down there.
