Following on from the excitement of the whale mooring recovery yesterday morning, we took advantage of the conditions to take the drone for a flight and some nice footage of the Aurora Australis travelling over a mirror like sea was obtained.
The afternoon was spent preparing the aquarium in the event that we should happen to see any krill on the echo sounders. We only have a very limited window of opportunity as we pass out of the ice to make a catch so eyes are fixed firmly on the computer screens. This morning the trawl net was set up and tested so that we are ready to go should the right kind of blob come our way.
We have now left the Antarctic continental shelf behind and are traversing across deep water towards Gribb Bank. There are occasional bands of ice in our path but nothing that presents serious difficulties at the moment.
Last night the Jane Austen Appreciation Society kicked off with a Sunday night screening of Mansfield Park in which our heroine Fanny Price struggles to choose between the righteously honourable Mr Bertram and the dangerously dashing Mr Crawford. (you'll never guess who wins...) It was sufficiently draining that the idea of an immediate follow up viewing of Pride and Prejudice was quietly dropped. But perhaps we'll be ready for more by next Sunday.
