Yesterday, we loaded a few additional shipping containers that the Deputy Voyage Leader scraped up from his foray into Davis station. It was remarked by some expeditioners that it was the first time they had ever seen the ship conduct a forensic examination of a station to ensure that we had everything we could get before leaving. In the afternoon, the station conducted final handover checks with a power house changeover and after 9:30pm (UTC+7) we exchanged incoming expeditioners for outgoing expeditioners. We now have 19 expeditioners and 21 crew on board for the return journey.
This morning, we conducted pre-departure briefings and a full emergency drill for all personnel before starting the engines to head home. If our entry into the fast ice last week was anything to go by then it will not be a quick exit. But all we have to do now is make a 180 degree turn and get back into our groove. (or rut depending on your point of view)
A big nod to the Davis Team and Aurora Australis Crew for their fantastic efforts over the last week. We came, we saw, we resupplied.
