Yesterday we arrived at the Davis ice edge and we were feeling very pleased with ourselves for arriving two days ahead of schedule. Then we started to break the fast ice at a pace at which even a glacier might sneer. In fact, someone was heard to observe on the bridge that we were being outpaced across the ice by six Adelie penguins. And one of them had a wooden leg.
We have about 4.5 nautical miles of ice to break to make it to the anchorage position. So far we have broken roughly a third of that. Looks like we might get into position for discharge of cargo sometime tomorrow.
So far it has been too windy to put up the helicopters and so we have kept them in the hangar for the night. Over this morning we are keeping an eye out for an opportunity to get some people ashore and get things moving.
