This morning, we woke to find ourselves about 60 miles north of Davis and making steady progress towards the fast ice edge. Unfortunately the weather has turned and we have 30 knots of wind, snow and low visibility. We don't expect to get to the fast ice until sometime this afternoon and then we will have to wait it out to see what the weather will permit. It's probably a good thing because otherwise we would be making an unfashionably early arrival at Davis.
Last night, following the Return of the King, we had a social occasion on the trawl deck to mark the ending of this phase of the voyage. We also held an auction for a number of rare and beautiful items including a couple of photographs by Barry Becker and the cabin cleaning services of Mick Eccles. The bidding was extremely competitive and all three items fetched very solid prices to the extent that over $1000 was raised for Camp Quality.
Our encounter with the pack ice has turned out to be less exciting than we might have expected. Perhaps it's time to move on.
