Yesterday, we came upon Gribb Bank and the depth rapidly came up from over 4000m to around 2000m. We also crossed the 60 degree line of latitude and have officially left the furious fifties behind. Our progress through the fifties could best be described as torturous as we have been lingering between 58 and 59 degrees for many days. Now we have taken a turn to the south west and are currently feeling our way through the outer pack. We are following a route which is officially known as Plan A under grey skies with a hint of sun. So far so good. Once we reach the western edge of the Gribb bank, we will head due south into heavier ice.
There have been a few flirtations with the ice so far on this voyage but now we can confidently say that we are going steady.
Briefings for the Davis arrival begin in earnest today. Clocks went back 1 hour overnight to bring us on to UTC+8
