After a few delays; we departed Hobart wharf last night at 8:30pm under starry skies. Despite the lateness of the hour, it was gratifying to see the AAD team still standing on the wharf making sure that we got away OK.
As we sailed into Storm Bay, the bridge alerted us to an auroral display over Bruny Island and some faintly luminous vertical rays heralded our entrance into the Southern Ocean. At the same time; the planet Venus shone brightly in the constellation of Scorpio above Mt Wellington. Our astrology is a bit rusty but we choose to take these as good omens.
This morning, the seas are calm and we are currently slipping over the edge of the continental shelf in search of deeper waters.
