Last night, we conducted the first deep CTD cast of the voyage with Katherine and Delphi directing the CTD to a depth of over 2500m.
We conducted additional CTDs overnight as we return northwards along leg 2 of the science transect. We are prepared to do a target trawls should something interesting appear on the echo-sounders but no suitable target has presented itself yet.
Yesterday afternoon, our refuelling supervisor Brad, working with the ship’s crew, took advantage of the calm conditions to transfer the contents of 4 large fuel tanks on the fore deck into the ships internal tanks thus adding just under 100’000 litres to our reserve for the voyage. The voyage is projected to last 67 days and to have a suitable safety margin, we need to carry a few jerry cans with us. All went without a hitch
We are currently on station conducting a CTD cast and then we will make our way further northwards conducting observations as we go.
