The weather has eased somewhat and the forecasts are finally suggesting that the trend will continue. We are still only making 9 knots but the ship movement has reduced.
This morning we had a briefing from the science teams concerning the K-Axis program. Our objective is to conduct a comprehensive survey of the biological processes and systems around the southern Kerguelen Plateau as well as the Princess Elizabeth trough which separates the plateau from the Antarctic Continental shelf.
Preparations are being made for the first Argo float deployment tomorrow morning. After which we will continue further south-west to get to our first sampling sites.
There are persistent rumours of a royal visit on board tonight…
