Comments

The wind is down to around 30 knots but is still trying to blow us back to where we came from. We are slowed to between 7 to 8 knots at the moment and you’d have to give the Southern Ocean full marks for consistency on this trip so far. The weather has certainly slowed deck preparations and a number of first timers have been taken aback by the odd slap of a wave on the port hole. This morning; the ship is occasionally rolling up to +/-10 degrees off vertical.

We are all looking forward to getting onto our first marine science station perhaps this Thursday or Friday. Our first sites are located between the Shackleton and West ice shelves and while sea ice conditions look favourable at this point, just about any change of scenery would be welcome about now.
