We departed Casey and sailed north across Vincennes Bay and through the pack ice north of the Pertersen Bank. We left the ice mid morning and are now in open waters with the occasional iceberg.
We have just passed many (possibly over 50?) humpback whales, spread across 5 or so miles of ocean, spouts blowing as far as the eye can see and the occasional whale breaching the surface.
On the 25 December we were in the middle of refuelling the station and resupply and no break was taken to celebrate Christmas. Preparations are now underway in the galley for a magnificent Christmas feast to share this afternoon. Yippee!
Cheers,
Andy, Vic and Eloise
