Loading of Return To Australia (RTA) cargo continued yesterday afternoon. In summary we loaded 161 tonnes in 34 lifts (on 20 barge loads). Our biggest day yet for cargo.
The ship's company was joined by the Station Leader and his management team for dinner and to congratulate the Captain of the Aurora Australis for his service, on this, his last voyage to Antarctica. The Captain has one more voyage to Macquarie Island before his retirement commences.
The ship is now full and were able to fit almost all of the RTA cargo on board. A couple of containers simply would not fit.
The anchor was away by 11.50am and we are being escorted out of the bay by an honour guard of inflatable boats and flares on station, to mark the occasion of the Captain's last voyage to the ice.
From everyone on board the Aurora Australis to all of you back home, our very best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
Cheers,
Andy, Vic and Eloise
