Comments

Cargo continued all day yesterday with 25 lifts of cargo weighing around 110 tons transferred ashore. The first of the Return To Australia (RTA) cargo has come aboard with 2 lifts totalling 15 tons.

High winds were forecast overnight and the next day at Casey so in the evening we pulled the anchor as soon as the jet barge we use to transfer cargo ashore, was lifted out of the water, and headed north to a position near Fraser Island some miles north of Casey station and the coast.

By 1130 this morning the weather in the bay had picked up to the point at which small boat operations would have stopped and by midday we would have no longer been able to hold anchor in Newcomb Bay.

To enable us to use the next day or two productively whilst the blizzard rages at Casey, the team put in a huge effort and managed to get the ships holds cleared of all of the big cargo.

This strategy paid off and today was spent using the forklift truck and small crane to juggle the smaller cargo into half height 20 foot containers to reduce the number of lifts and barge loads when we return to Casey when the weather has abated.

Cheers,

Andy, Vic and Eloise
