Voyage 1 passengers woke yesterday thinking they were heading to Davis this afternoon but most find themselves still in Australia waiting our return from Macquarie Island. A very quick change of plans were in order to repatriate an expeditioner on the island with a medical condition requiring specialist management. There are an additional 11 passengers who woke up thinking they were travelling to Macquarie Island on board the French vessel L’Astrolabe but ended up on the Aurora Australis.

With this in mind we loaded a team of people to the Aurora Australis to undertake the voyage and set sail for Macquarie Island at 1700 local time last night. We are expended to arrive early Sunday with a weather window to undertake flying operations with AS350B3 helicopters on board.

With such a short trip it is important to complete as many briefings as soon as possible so all are ready when operations commence. Today Environmental briefings, Helicopter Safety briefings and boot & clothing cleaning have been completed. There have also been planning meetings on how the transfer of expeditoners and their baggage will occur quickly and safely.

It is a credit to our organisation how quickly we can respond to situations and the resilience and understanding of all personnel and passengers involved.

Cheers
Leanne and Mick
