Plans for our arrival at Davis are in the final stages of preparation. They are about 95% complete and will be finalised once the final piece of the puzzle is known – arrival date and time and weather conditions. Once we arrive at the fast ice the plan is to fly priority and key personnel to station including scientists and the cargo team. This will allow station inductions and briefings to be conducted whilst the ship is breaking into the fast ice and locating a suitable position to ‘park up’ in preparation for resupply.
After we are ‘parked up’ the remaining summer and winter groups will go ashore. This will leave the ship rather empty but we will still have the company of the Mawson personnel waiting to be flown to Mawson by fixed wing aircraft. We currently have 97 personnel on board plus the crew. On our return leg there will be 27 personnel.
I can hear King Neptune and his merry band preparing for the anointment of more subjects into his kingdom.
Cheers Leanne and Mick
