Another excellent presentation last night. This time on the Antarctic Treaty, how it came into being and how it operates as well as the history of how the Australian Antarctic Territories came to be. It evoked some really interesting questions afterwards.
Today’s field training was ropes and knots and last night the 4th tow of the CPR commenced.
The iceberg sweep was almost decided at 0930 this morning when the radar picked up a berg about 12 nautical miles away. Unfortunately it was a little foggy and the rules state that the iceberg is to be sighted and the official time is recorded by the Officer of the Watch when the berg is seen through the window on the bridge wing.
More sweeps were run this morning but this time for the Melbourne Cup. Around 2.40 pm we gathered in the cinema on D Deck and watched the argy bargy of the horses as they came around the final bend and yes I was excited as my horses came first and second. Thank you to our Comms Techs on the ship and at the AAD for downloading the video of the race for us to watch. The winners receive some money and the balance goes to Camp Quality.
Cheers Leanne and Mick
