Comments
We quickly steamed north throughout the day. The sighting conditions started off very good but soon deteriorated as the wind picked up and the snow showers passed through. A long day of bridge observation yielded a single sighting of a minke whale.
Late in the day our echosounders picked up schools of lantern fish so we conducted one mid water trawl to identify the species assemblage at this latitude. We are likely to do a couple more trawls before we are north of 60oS.
