Quiet day with no sightings of any whales but some seabirds to keep us entertained while on watch.
Training today involved another muster followed by inelegantly squirming into immersion suits.
We are still trying to resolve the glitch in our passive acoustic set up but no eureka moment yet. The equipment can still detect blue whales as proven today with songsters detected towards the mouth of the Ross Sea. However, the sonobuoy signal is not as clear as we would expect and does not last very long post-deployment.
Hopefully these problems will be resolved tomorrow.
