Maintaining great speed.
Last night we had the first after dinner all expeditioner briefing since leaving Davis to inform everyone of the arrival plan, port call plan, clothing and kit return, and accommodation and travel details for those keen to get home for Easter.
We followed the briefing with a few beers and a fund raising auction for Camp Quality, the charity that the crew of the Aurora Australis have supported for many years.
The auction has become a bit of a tradition over the past few years with crew and expeditioners spending hours and days in advance making and creating stuff to auction off. Rocket provided some amazing wildlife sketches which sold in the high hundreds, Seamus made some of his well known lamps which were sold in pairs and went for over a thousand dollars. There were some amazing pens made from Huon pine and machined from metals, a hand carved whale tail, rope work, metal work, survival chocolate and Vonna's collection of misplaced beanies and more!
All up $16,500 was raised, so a great effort from all, makers, providers and buyers alike.
We are currently still on target to arrive in Hobart for the morning of Friday the 3 April, which, as I'm sure you're aware by now, is the Voyage Leaders birthday (and apparently he really likes single malts)!
Cheers,
Andy and Simon
