Comments

Yesterday we transited to the Prydz A box and began running transects. We made a couple of routine RMT's and a few target RMT's although the targets were few and far between.

We are now sailing down the last transect of the last box for the last of the marine science project.

After this we will transit via the most expedient route to the whale mooring that needs to be retrieved before we can head to Davis.

A huge thanks is due to all of the crew and expeditioners who have assisted with the 'opportunistic' and unplanned marine science we have undertaken over the last three weeks.

For many, the marine science was quite unexpected, with some scientists and voyage support staff expecting to board the ship and relax, only to find themselves working 12 hour shifts every day!

We have completed approximately:

7 35nm X 35nm survey boxes
Each box approximately 320nm of acoustic transects
2,240nm or more of acoustic surveying in total
53 Rectangular Midwater Trawls:
24 routine trawls
23 targeted trawls
6 live krill trawls
6 demersal trawls
138 phytoplankton samplings collected and processed
197 predator and ice observations recorded

We're all now looking forward to some quieter days ahead. And a drink!

Cheers,

Andy and Simon
