Comments

A very successful afternoon and evening yesterday with 8 RMT's (Rectangular Mid-water Trawls) completed in total.

The catch included live krill to return to Hobart and various small fish, invertebrates and other squiggly critters!

The Science Coordinators' shift has been having most of the 'luck' but this is expected to change as we are currently looking for a location with a good level sea bed to attempt our first demersal trawl. This will involve an 80m wide net lowered to the ocean floor 1800m behind the ship and then slowly retrieved through the water column.

Anne the Doc has offered to dissect any giant squid. A chain saw has been offered as an alternative to her usual sterile scalpel!

Cheers,

Andy and Simon
