The weather deteriorated overnight as we transited to the survey box north of Enderby Land. It peeked over night with blizzard conditions and winds in the 50kts mark and quite bouncy seas. By the morning it had dropped away and now we have clear skies and the seas are once more calm.
Mountains and the Antarctic plateau can be seen in the distance.
We are on the second leg of the Enderby box and preparing for the first 12 hours of fishing. The plan is to do routine RMT's (Rectangular Midwater Trawls) at the start and end of the transects, and then do a couple of target trawls between, when good targets are seen on the echo sounders.
The crew of the Aurora Australis manage all of the trawl deck operations and teams of scientists and expeditioners are ready to help process the catch from the trawls.
If we find krill we will try to catch around 10,000 to take home, live for the AAD aquarium.
Cheers,
Andy and Simon
