Comments

Yesterday and today have been spent acoustic surveying the ocean floor and water column. We are steaming in a grid orientated perpendicular to the ocean shelf, roughly north south in direction. We steam for 35nm, take a right angle turn, steam for 5nm and then turn again and head back the way we came for 35nm. It takes about a day and half to cover one 35nm square grid.

We are now heading west to a new grid off Enderby Land where we will repeat the process. This time however we will be ready to start trawling for fish and krill at strategic locations within the grid.

We hope to arrive at Enderby Land before the storm that is coming arrives because there is a substantial amount of pack ice in the region. It's preferable to be in pack ice in 50kts of wind than open water as pack significantly reduces the swell...

Cheers,

Andy and Simon
