We waited an hour after lunch for the winds to drop off, before slipping the lines and departing Mawson station, farewelling the winter team, on a beautiful clear sunny day.
Shipboard inductions and a briefing from the Master were completed in time for a BBQ on the trawl deck to celebrate a safe an successful resupply.
A huge thanks to everyone involved in the resupply efforts, both at Mawson and on the ship. Also to those like the Bureau Of Meteorology forecasting team supporting us from Davis, and all of the folks back in Tasmania and elsewhere who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the resupply happened safely and efficiently.
We are now sailing up and down a 35nm box with acoustic gear running as a trial for the various sampling activities that are about to commence as part of the marine science component of the voyage.
Cheers,
Andy and Simon
