Comments

Yesterdays whale mooring recovery went well with the acoustic release activating once it received the sonar signal release code from the ship. The mooring took about 30 min to rise to the surface and was spotted by "Eagle Eyes" Nick the 2nd Officer! Once the mooring was lifted to the trawl deck a replacement mooring was deployed and we hung around long enough to make sure it was on the bottom and we had a good fix on it's location for retrieval in a few years time.

The forecast weather for our expected arrival at Mawson has deteriorated so we are diverting slightly to the south to try and retrieve three moorings for the Japanese Antarctic programme (JARE) whilst we wait for the good weather we need to moor in Horseshoe Harbour.

Last night we had the first after dinner role call and daily briefing for the expeditioners. These meetings will become the norm as Mawson approaches.

Cheers,

Andy and Simon
