Comments

We woke to the first bands of sea ice this morning. Quite large lumps of multi year pack with the odd growler hiding amongst them. Fur seals and whales.

Our refuelling supervisor briefed the watercraft team ready for our arrival at Mawson in a few days time.

This afternoon we plan to attempt the retrieval of the acoustic whale mooring, and of course, the seas have picked up! Watch this space...

Tonight and the following two nights we will retard clocks to bring our time zone to UTC+4, one hour past Mawson which is at UTC+5. Given the norm at Mawson is for strong katabatic winds to blow up overnight and die down around midday; winds which preclude watercraft or helicopter operations, this will (we hope) give us an extra hour each day of lighter winds.

Cheers,

Andy and Simon
