The seas picked up overnight and a blanket of low cloud covers the horizon. That's more the southern ocean we know and love!
The second of the six ARGO floats was deployed without incident, closely followed by the third.
The CPR (Continuous Plankton Recorder) was retrieved and it's sample collecting spool replaced.
The ships crew were busy with safety rounds and preparations for arriving at Mawson are under way.
Nick our Field Training Officer (like Bear Grylls but hard!) has started training the Mawson wintering team. By the time they arrive they will be familiar with cold weather survival and camping, navigation (GPS, map and compass), rope-work and knot tying, glacier travel and all of the intricacies of living and surviving in sub zero environments.
Planning for the Mawson resupply will start in earnest tomorrow.
Cheers,
Andy and Simon
