Voyage 3 set sail yesterday evening to resupply Mawson Station and retrieve Davis expeditioners on the way home. We also hope to achieve a range of marine science projects including retrieval of underwater moorings and fishing for krill.
Today is relatively quite with the ships crew tidying up all the loose ends from the port call and expeditioners resting up after a busy departure yesterday afternoon and evening. The vessel is travelling comfortably in moderate seas.
The CPR (Continuous Plankton Recorder) was deployed this morning and will be towed all the way to the Mawson ice edge. The CPR has been used on almost every voyage since 1991 to collect and monitor zooplankton as the ship travels between Antarctica and Australia.
As we sail west we will need to retard the clocks with the first one hour time change at midnight tonight.
Cheers,
Andy and Simon
