It’s a sparkling day with a clear sky and sunny conditions. It has been a very productive 24 hours in terms of science output with 11 CTD casts completed and an Argo Float deployed. Rumour has it the 2 shifts are in competition now.
We are working our way west of the Mertz Glacier on a series of transects where CTD’s are being deployed. By Sunday 18th we will have worked our way back to the position of the moorings P1 and P2 which were previously unsuccessful in retrieval. We will make another attempt to retrieve these prior to leaving the area.
This afternoon the ship’s crew are conducting a “man overboard” drill which is part of a series of drills which the ship is required to complete prior to arrival in Hobart. This will be completed whilst travelling between CTD locations. To see the crew going through these drills gives a comforting feeling of knowing we are in good hands.
Cheers
