Comments

Late last night we retrieved the last sound source mooring in heavy ice. In the early hours we completed 3 final CTD deployments before departing the Dalton Polynya at 0800 for the Mertz Glacier region to continue marine science. In the Totten region in a little over 16 days we have conducted 82 CTD deployments, over 40 underway CTD casts, deployed 6 ARGO floats, retrieved 6 moorings and deployed the glider. It has been a very successful phase of the voyage in terms of output.

We now transit to the Mertz. This morning we navigated through the pack ice to the northern ice edge. This has taken 4 hours compared to our inbound journey of some 38 hours, the ice has opened up considerably due to favourable winds.

Tonight we will enjoy a BBQ on the trawl deck at the ice edge and contemplate the next phase of the voyage at the Mertz.

Cheers
Tony & Lloyd
