Comments

We completed 5 CTD operations along the north – south line of the Dalton polynya yesterday afternoon and into the evening. A decision was made yesterday afternoon to take advantage of improving ice conditions to the west of the polynya and attempt again the retrieval of the mooring M3. It was decided also that after this mooring we would continue to navigate the pack ice toward the Totten Glacier itself where CTD sampling can take place at points along the transect.

This morning the M3 mooring was successfully retrieved much to the delight of all on board. It was a great effort from the science and the P&O crews after Naomi had performed some great “circle work” with the ship to break up the ice around the mooring location. WE have now retrieved 4 of the planned 6 mooring retrievals.

We now continue our transit towards the Totten Glacier with CTD’s planned for this afternoon in a small polynya which we will encounter en-route.

Cheers

Tony & Lloyd
